We have recently had the opportunity to once again upgrade a few of our most frequently used essential oil ingredients—so we want to share a short update with you detailing the changes!
Across the board, we have decided to invest in some of the highest-quality essential oils that are both more aromatic and better for the local environments in which they’re grown. That does mean a few of our signature scents will smell slightly different—yet, this is simply because our new ingredients more purely embody the plants they are distilled from.
The improvement of our ingredient quality has been part of our journey since the very beginning. During our first year as a business we sourced our essential oils from more mainstream suppliers; then, as we got a little more wind in our sails, a successfully funded Kickstarter in our second year allowed us to make the switch to 100% sustainably and ethically sourced ingredients.
Over the years, we have begun to introduce more complex aromatic blends that feature absolutes such as rose, jasmine, coffee, and vanilla—and with these, we’ve made it a point from the get-go to skip straight to the good stuff! The absolutes we craft with are higher concentrate, premium distillations that last longer while retaining more of the plants’ original scent.
That being said, this is the most notable upgrade we have made in recent years, and we’re excited to share which ingredients we’ve upgraded and why they’re making a positive difference.
Lavender Essential Oil
Former ingredient: 100% Lavandula officinalis oil, 6-10% of which is naturally composed of camphor, an aromatic terpene found in the camphor laurel tree that also occurs naturally in some essential oils.
New ingredient: 100% lavender oil, only 0-0.6% of which is naturally composed of camphor. We’ve switched over to this higher quality essential oil because it exudes a stronger lavender scent!
Orange Essential Oil
Former ingredient: Non-organic orange essential oil.
New ingredient: Organic orange essential oil. The orange plants used to create this ingredient are completely free of chemical pesticides before the essential oil extraction process, which means they are not negatively impacting the surrounding ecosystems.
Rosemary Essential Oil
Former ingredient: Rosmarinus officinalis oil, which is extracted from rosemary leaves and cut with a carrier oil (such as coconut oil).
New ingredient: 100% rosemary oil. This higher quality ingredient is rosemary in its purest form, which offers a clearer rosemary scent while streamlining the benefits the plant contains.
